GOVERNOR DAVIS NAMES MEMBERS TO THE AMADOR COUNTY FAIR 8/28/2002

SACRAMENTO

Governor Gray Davis today announced the appointments of Marilyn Hoopes, Janice T. Howard, Tim King, and the reappointments of Michael E. Boitano, Frank Halvorson, Robert J. Manassero, Charles Simmons, and Ciro Toma as members of the Board of Directors, 26th District Agricultural Association (Amador County Fair).

Ms. Hoopes, 50, of Plymouth, has been engaged in the private practice of law in Sutter Creek since 1987. She has been a vineyard grape grower for Karma Vineyards and Winery of California since 1995. Ms. Hoopes earned a bachelor of arts degree from California State University, Sacramento, and a juris doctorate degree from the University of California, Davis.

Ms. Howard, 63, of Plymouth, is the owner and operator of Taylor Ranch. She served on the Fair Board from 1973 to 1992. Ms. Howard comes from a five-generation cattle ranching family. She is a member of the Amador-El Dorado-Sacramento County Cattlewomen's Association and the American National Cattlewomen's Association.

Mr. King, 40, of Plymouth, has been a District Manager for Amerigas Propane since 1995, where he has been employed since 1984. He has membership in 4-H. Mr. King is a former volunteer firefighter for the Amador Fire Protection District. He is the President of Amador County Youth Football.

Mr. Boitano, 52, of Jackson, has been a member of the Amador County Fair Board since 1996. He is the Amador County Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights and Measures, a position he has held since 1998. Prior to that, he was an Inspector for Agricultural and Standards for Amador County from 1990 to 1998. Mr. Boitano served with the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972. He earned a bachelor of science degree from California State University, Chico.

Mr. Halvorson, 46, of Sutter Creek, has been a member of the Amador County Fair Board since 1993. He has been with Prospect Motors, Inc. since 1983, and has been President since 2000. Mr. Halvorson is a member of the Sutter-Amador Hospital Foundation, and past Director and President of the Amador County Chamber of Commerce. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of the Pacific.

Mr. Manassero, 58, of Sutter Creek, has been a member of the Amador County Fair Board since 1995. He is also an insurance broker for the Manassero Insurance Agency, a position he has held since 1966. Mr. Manassero is a member of the Jackson Elks Lodge, Jackson Rotary, Board of Directors of the Central Sierra Bank, and the Italian Benevolent Society. He earned a bachelor of science degree from California State University, Sacramento.

Mr. Simmons, 55, of Jackson, has been a member of the Amador County Fair Board since 1990. He has been the owner of Simmons Landscape Company since 1970. Mr. Simmons is a member of the Amador/Argonaut High School's Agriculture Advisory Committee. He is a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.

Mr. Toma, 61, of Sutter Creek, has been a member of the Amador County Fair Board since 1976. He is the owner/partner of Toma and Anderson Land Surveying, a position he has held since 1969. Mr. Toma is a member of the Amador Economic Development Corporation, Director of the Western Fairs Association, and President of the Amador County Chamber of Commerce.

The District Agricultural Association holds fairs, expositions and exhibitions for the purpose of exhibiting all of the industries and industrial enterprises, resources and products of every kind or nature. The resultant goal of this local marketing and advertising is to enhance and stimulate county revenues. Members do not receive a salary. These positions do not require Senate confirmation.
