FREE WASTE TIRE COLLECTION AND RECYCLING
Saturday, May 30, 2009, the Amador County Waste Management
Department will be collecting used (waste) tires from Amador County residents
for recycling.
In California approximately 40.2 million reusable and waste
tires are generated each year. About 1.5 million waste tires are already
stockpiled throughout the state, posing a health and safety risk for the
public. In addition to numerous environmental concerns, illegal dumping
and stockpiling of waste tires locally in Amador County can result in breeding
habitats for disease carrying insects and contribute to the threat of dangerous
tire fires.
Amador County residents may bring up to nine (9) passenger
or light truck tires
(no rims) to the following location:
12200 Airport Road, Jackson
(Gravel Parking Lot)
Saturday, May 30, 2009
8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Please be advised of the following restrictions:
Tires will NOT be accepted before or after the May 30th
event.
Tires in excess of 40 inches tall will NOT be accepted.
California State law allows for the transportation of NO
more than nine (9) tires per vehicle (STRICTLY ENFORCED). Vehicles
transporting more than nine (9) tires may be cited by law enforcement.
This event is NOT available to tire dealers or shops.
Commercial or business generated tires will NOT be accepted.
Event may end before 3:00 p.m., depending on space
available.
The one-day only Tire
Amnesty Collection Event is a joint effort of the Amador County Waste
Management Department and the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
