Man dies at Rainbow Pools

Published: August 17, 2008

A 33-year-old Turlock man died Saturday in a diving accident at a popular swimming hole east of Groveland.

The accident was reported at 11:25 a.m. at Rainbow Pools, off Highway 120, said Paul Tualla, spokesman for the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, Arlo Roberts, was with family and friends, setting up to spend the day swimming, when he dove about 30 feet into the swimming hole and hit a rock, head first, just under the surface of the water, Tualla said.

When emergency workers arrived a few minutes later, his family was pulling him out of the water and starting CPR.

Roberts died enroute to Sonora Regional Medical Center.
