I live in Ione, main street has no parking. Jackson does not have parking. Sutter Creek is the same,if you need dog food, cat litter,a new t.v.or fishing tackle off to WallMart or K Mart i go. I go to the bank in Ione once a week and what a pain in the butt to find a parking spot close, or near the bank. These towns were built when you hitch up the horse to the buggy and towns were the only place to go,thats all they had. Now off to Costco every two weeks and you are set. Raleys,Savemart, and Safeway, pull in park close and it is real convient.

I live in Jackson, however it's more likely that I would shop downtown Sutter Creek for the variety and gift shops. Jackson has too many bars, antique shops and empty stores. I still miss Books & Beyond and Home Sweet Home!

Other than Christmas when I'm looking for a special something, I don't hit the main sreets. How many high priced knick knacks can you buy? A few more realistic clothing store (not ones that carry supper skinny flimsy stuff) and some variety and necessity stores would help give you a reason to go there!

DaGoatLady said it best, my family will only occasionally shop downtown Jackson for a gift or two. If Jackson wants shoppers then give us something to buy on a weekly basis "how many high priced knick knacks can you buy". Jackson needs a couple of nice places to eat downtown to attract shoppers, similar to Sutter Creek.
