With Halloween on a Friday this year, state highway officials are warning the public to watch out for increased traffic and asking area partygoers to travel with designated drivers.
"Partygoers should decide who is the designated driver before you arrive at your party," said Lt. J.R. Pelfanio, commander of the California Highway Patrol's San Andreas division. "The designated driver program does work. The life you save could be your own."
Earlier in the week, CHP units in San Andreas and Jackson responded to nearly half a dozen minor accidents.
A Modesto woman and her 4-year-old passenger were treated for minor injuries at Sonora Regional Hospital Monday following an accident on Obrynes Ferry Road north of Black Creek Drive in Calaveras County.
Twenty-nine-year-old Ana Sanchez lost control of her 2006 Dodge while negotiating a right-hand curve, with the vehicle sliding off the road and rolling onto its left side.
A Jackson man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Sunday morning, after his 1986 Nissan veered off Clinton Road east of Butte Mountain Road into a dirt embankment. The force of the impact hurled the unrestrained driver, who wasn't identified by the CHP, to the right of his vehicle, where his head smashed through the windshield. The 26-year-old male was treated for injuries and arrested.
A 47-year-old Galt man was arrested Saturday afternoon for a DUI after making a late turn directly in front of an approaching vehicle at the intersection of Ridge and New York Ranch roads. The resulting collision left a 72-year-old Pine Grove man with minor injuries. The CHP didn't release the names of those involved.
