When will Publisher Jack Mitchell interview someone like Ken Berry of Friends of Jackson, who has brought a suit against the Jackson Hills EIR, or myself, with Concerned Citizens of Jackson, both of whom are opponents of Jackson Hills because of the impacts that cannot be mitigated? When will the Ledger Dispatch give the residents of Jackson a "fair and balanced" reporting of those issues?
Mitchell's Feb. 29 interview with Allen Warren of New Faze Development gave Mr. Warren the golden opportunity to gild the lily and to promote himself as somehow different from other developers, and his concept of Jackson Hills different from the analysis and description found in his own environmental impact report. We can smell the wolf in sheep's clothing and we won't be fooled by his continued deceptions.
Now that the housing market has gone sour and most of his Sacramento projects are incomplete, he wants to cover his tracks and withdraw from his agreements, like the indemnity agreement signed with the city council. That would be nice for him.
He would like the city council to rescind what he instructed them to do on Nov. 13 when Michael Cook, his attorney, told everyone that New Faze would just have to "work harder to sell the project to the community." Cook instructed the city council to "stand firm" on its resolutions enabling the project and send the matter to the June 3 ballot so the people could decide.
A vote was taken. The council members stood firm and the matter was sent to the county elections office, where it is being prepared for the June ballot when the people will have their opportunity, at last, to be heard.
The city council had its opportunity on Nov. 13 to rescind its prior approvals. Concerned Citizens of Jackson gathered more than 700 signatures from people who want an opportunity to voice their opinion. It was the will of the people to place those issues on the ballot, and they will be heard.
