Jeld-Wen Inc., which has a facility in Placer County, received about $322,000 from the state. The company has six other operations statewide. Alliant Insurance Services, which operates in Sacramento, collected $210,000, while Sacramento-based Pacific Ethanol Inc. received $216,000. Other job-training funding recipients are Building Material Distribution Inc., California American Water and InterMotive Inc., according to the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency’s Employment Training Panel. About 6,700 people will benefit from the latest round of money. The panel is “one of the state’s leading economic development resources,” Employment Training Panel executive director Brian McMahon said in a news release Monday. Although the awards have been approved, no dollars will be issued until a long-delayed state budget is approved. The job-training program is funded by the employment training tax paid by employers and is geared at companies facing international and out-of-state competition. The panel has appoved more than $1 billion to train about 800,000 employees and 70,000 companies statewide. Reader Comments (1) Comments Mawiyah Bustamante July 29, 2008 11:32AM EST how can the state give up all that money for training when they cant even pass a budget and pay the people that are already employed by the state. also, if they put more funding into the system for schools there wouldnt be such a high demand for job training and adult education.
