Politicians are failing us

Friday, August 07, 2009

- Paul Severson, Jackson

I am upset as anyone in this state about our legislators and Governor. I was forced to retire because I had my 30 years in and it was cheaper to pay me my pension (which is paid for) than to keep me on the payroll. This is what happens when our state politicians spend us into chaos, and they don't care. They get into the office to further their own recognition, ego, ambition and success. They start running for re-election the first day they are elected. This is common with all politicians at any level. Conservatives want to cut - liberals want to spend.

I love it when you hear life long politicians say that "public service is the greatest sacrifice there is." Boy is that a load of manure.

Our last three Presidents have had their own agendas and it has hurt this country horribly. Clinton was too busy womanizing and spending the taxpayer's money to see what was happening. Bush really didn't take care of the economy at all. Obama believes that he is the most popular person in the world and has a real complex about being the great communicator, the great liberator, the great hope for America, while spending half his time around the world apologizing for America's shortcomings. I really think he has an ego problem. Does he realize that almost half the voters didn't vote for him? He acts like a millionaire playboy flying around at taxpayers expense. He is spending at a rate that we will never be able to pay back. Why is he involved in this case of the black professor and the white cop that arrested him? He isn't helping race relations.

Do politicians really care what we think? No. They don't need to and there has never been a politician that doesn't like to spend money. How do you think they got elected? Their voting doesn't have any effect on them. They still get their pay, benefits, vacation and perks. THey all promise the same reforms and help for average Joe and then turn on us like a hungry shark. Why? Because they know we won't do anything about it. They know we have short memories. The minute someone starts to dig into their finances and business dealings we find out they are crooked. But nothing ever happens to them.

Years ago it was thousands of dollars. That went to millions. That went to billions. Now we are talking trillions. I don't think in my 62 years of life I have heard the word trillions used more than two times. Now it is an every day word for the politicians.

Our elected officials let big banks and firms make bad loans so they could reap huge bonuses. Congress could have stopped it but they re friends. And the lobbyists are doing a good job of screwing all of us working people. They let oil run the country. I say bail GM and the rest of the car makers by having the oil companies loan them money. They are the ones who need the automobiles to keep selling and all of us to keep driving.

Our government is growing at an unbelievable rate. This means more taxes, more fees and more committees to spend more money. The American way of life is gone and we will never be the same. We are going to be taxed as never before and our children will suffer like no other Americans have. We are selling out to foreign investors because in reality we are broke. Not because the working stiffs haven't paid their share, it's from the overspending of crooks.

Politicians are close to being traitors. They are elected with the public's trust to do a fair and honest job. They can't do it. THey are riders added onto every bill that is put to a vote that have nothing to do with the original bill. Favors here, favors there. I believe they are all crooked.

How do we find honest people? I don't know. Like most of us I am praying that we pull out of this. It will be on the backs of the middle class worker as usual.
