Registrar of Voters Sheldon D. Johnson announced earlier this week that the petition-in-lieu-of-filing-fee period for the June 8 Primary Election begins on Jan. 4 and ends on Feb. 25 for the following offices:
- County offices: assessor, auditor, county clerk-recorder, district attorney, sheriff-coroner, Superior Court judge, District 3 supervisor, District 5 supervisor and treasurer-tax collector.
- State offices: governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, controller, treasurer, attorney general, insurance commissioner, member of the State Board of Equalization, U.S. senator and superintendent of public instruction.
- Congressional offices: District 3 U.S. representative.
- Legislative offices: District 10 State Assembly Member.
For judicial candidates (judge of the Superior Court), the petition-in-lieu-of-filing-fee period begins on Jan. 4 and ends on the date the declaration of intention is filed (Feb. 1 to Feb. 10).
Declaration-of-candidacy and nomination papers may be obtained Feb. 15 through March 12. If an incumbent fails to file their nomination papers by 5 p.m. on March 12, there will be a five-day extension allowed for all persons other than the incumbent to file for such office. The extension deadline is 5 p.m. on March 17.
