Buena Vista Casino
On October 30, the Amador County Supervisors voted to send a letter to the National Indian Gaming Commission disavowing a letter sent earlier by County Land Use Director Gary Clark. Clark’s letter had expressed concerns about the environmental impacts of the proposed Buena Vista casino and pointed out some problems with the county’s July intergovernmental services agreement with the Buena Vista Band of MeWuk Indians.

While the casino is on tribal federal trust land and not subject to county ordinance or state law, it will have off-site impacts on the agricultural Jackson Valley area, Ione formation rare plants, traffic, and wetlands. The Foothill Conservancy is urging the county and Amador Water Agency to conduct full analysis of those impacts under the California Environmental Quality Act, as required by law.
