The public will get its first look at a long-awaited Municipal Services Review of county agencies at the Local Agency Formation Commission meeting 7 p.m., Thursday at the County Administration Center in Jackson.

Using information from state resources, county reports and agency cooperation, the review, which began last fall, is expected to serve as a planning resource that could lead to smaller, more efficient government organizations, said LAFCO Executive Officer Roseanne Chamberlain. "Two little agencies may combine or reorganize," she said of one possible result of the review.

The larger purpose of the MSR is so LAFCO can make informed decisions about the spheres of influence, Chamberlain added, which LAFCO will begin considering in July. "Because of the agency cooperation, we were able to do the work very cost effectively," she said. With the aid of county and city staff, as well as staff from other local agencies, Chamberlain said LAFCO staff was able to keep consultant fees low and complete the review at a cost lower than others she's seen done elsewhere.

The public review draft will be discussed Thursday, with the full 500-page report available the week of June 23. Comments on the MSR can be received any time prior to the close of the hearing on July 17. Participating agencies will receive the documents at no charge. Additional copies are available at cost. Pre-orders are welcome.
