Ledger-DispatchAmador Dems hope to make the cut Friday, January 09, 2009 By Staff Report (editor@ledger-dispatch.com) California Democrats aren't done making decisions. They're being invited to help select delegates tomorrow for the California Democratic Party's State Convention, which will be held April 24 to 26 in Sacramento this year. Tomorrow's vote will take place at the Rancho Cordova Library. Two local residents, Liz McCulloch and Marcie Bayne, both of the Amador Democratic Central Committee, are running for delegate slots. After delegates are chosen, there will be another vote to select the representative for the 10th Assembly District Executive Board, which Bayne intends to compete for if she makes it past the delegate election. The California Democratic Party is convening election meetings to select delegates in each of the state's 80 assembly districts on Jan. 10 or 11. At these meetings, registered Democrats will elect 12 delegates (six men and six women) from each assembly district to be members of the California Democratic Party State Central Committee. Those chosen will represent their assembly districts for both the 2009 and 2010 state conventions. The filing deadline to run ended Dec. 31, but local committee officer Judy Hotchkiss is hoping to mobilize support for McCulloch and Bayne. "We are actively recruiting folks to come and vote for our Amador representatives," she said via e-mail. "Anyone interested in carpooling may call me at 296-4581."
