Photo by Claudette LangleyThursday's kickoff meeting to develop a water element for the county's general plan drew about 50 participants who learned that their efforts will put Calaveras on the cutting-edge of resource management. Jeff Loux, director of Land Use and Natural Resources at UC Davis, told residents, county staff and representatives from the county's water service providers that only a handful of California counties and cities are working on plans linking water and land use. Loux presented a breakdown of the elements involved in creating a workable blueprint and emphasized the innovativeness of doing so. “There are only a handful of other areas doing this,” Loux said. “You have a chance here to do something very special.” For more information on the water plan and to find out when and where the next meeting will be held call 754-3543. The complete story is in Tuesday's print edition of the Calaveras Enterprise and in our e-Edition.
