The fact that attention does not equal appreciation matters little to those insensitive enough to demand it. And unfortunately technology has amplified an attention seeker's chances of success. A relatively low impact tantrum can be upgraded to road rage with a car or murder with a gun. A simple Sunday cruise can carve a swath of audio devastation with sub-woofers or a demufflered Harley. A front yard can become a stage for visual assault by fake animal and stone - a casino entrance, a garish incongruity.

Amador County continues to offer some relief in a congested and stimulus competitive world. Self centered houses are claiming hilltops but billboards remain conspicuous because of their scarcity. Our back roads, historic towns, foothills and mountains offer a peace difficult to find, impossible to recreate and much too easy for a selfish or clueless few to defile.
