I'm sold

 - Ben Klotz, Sutter Creek

Despite the Gold Rush developers' many attempts to reach out and inform Sutter Creek residents of the project facts, don't the project opponents continue to use the same incorrect talking points to spread fear? They use points such as "jamming roads," 14,000 cars a day (it's car trips, not cars to be correct!), "huge" and "sales job." I have found that any questions I have had regarding the true facts were easily answered by talking to the Gold Rush office staff and project partners.

Katherine Evatt's recent guest commentary against the Gold Rush project is a prime example of the misinformation campaign (Sept. 2, "Let the Gold Rush buyer beware"). Does Evatt realize that her claim that Sutter Creek residents such as myself have fallen prey to a "masterful sales job" is very insulting? I have the intelligence to look with a discerning eye at a project proposal and decide for myself whether I like it or not. Other Sutter Creek residents who've looked at the Gold Rush project plan and agree with me that it is a good plan for our city's future haven't been "sold" anything. We just have a different conclusion than she does.

Isn't Evatt's opinion an elitist attitude to infer that those who don't share her viewpoint must be people easily sold a bill of goods? So far, the Sutter Creek Planning Commission, city council members and staff have kept this project development phase focused with facts, not opinions. I hope that, as this public process goes forward, the dialogue between pro and con sides will be respectful of each other.
