SITE HISTORY
The site is located at 917 North Main Street in the city of Jackson, California. The site consists of approximately 60 acres comprised of four contiguous parcels and includes the proposed 22 acre Home Depot building, parking lot footprint and surrounding infrastructure. Currently the site is largely undeveloped with the exception of an existing residential building that has been used as a day care facility. The area of the site has historical gold mining activities associated with it. These include the Kennedy Mine Tailings property which borders the site to the east and the former Kennedy Gold Mine located approximately a half mile away. In addition, the former Argonaut Gold Mine is located approximately 1000 feet to the north of the site. Wastes from these mines and their tailings may have been transported to the site by natural and man made means. Based upon previous investigation results, site soils contain arsenic concentrations up to 133 mg/kg which is above local background. levels.
