The San Andreas unit of the California Highway Patrol reported two major injury accidents on rainy roadways Friday night, one of which involved a 16-year-old skateboarder being hit by a car.

The Valley Springs teen, Brandon Martin, was skating downhill on Hartvickson Lane south of Silver Rapids Road, crossing the southbound traffic lane and entering the northbound lane directly in front of a 2005 Subaru driven by 62-year-old Sandra Orr of Sonora. Orr was driving at an approximate speed of 40 miles per hour when Martin appeared in front of her and didn't have time to react, according to the CHP report. After hitting Martin, Orr put the teen in her car and rushed him to Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital with what were reported to be major injuries.

A little more than an hour later elsewhere in Valley Springs, a missed stop sign resulted in serious injuries for the two drivers involved in the resulting collision.

There were three occupants in the 1991 Honda driven by Danika Dillon, 18, of Mokelumne Hill that missed a posted stop sign at the intersection of Garner Place and Baldwin Street. Dillon was driving southbound on Garner Place at roughly 40 mph when she slammed on her brakes too late to keep from entering the intersection in front of a 2001 Ford driven by 42-year-old Darryl Gallion of Waterford. Gallion slammed on his brakes as well, but couldn't stop his vehicle from slamming into the Honda's driver side, which was sent spinning into a street sign and bush. Gallion's vehicle spun as well, ending up on the south road edge of Baldwin Street.

Both Dillon and Gallion were taken to area hospitals with major injuries. Except for Rebecca Jeffers, 39, of Waterford, a passenger in Gallion's car who was taken to Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries, no injuries were sustained by three other passengers, including two in Dillon's car.
