I have followed these hate crimes against Justin Zysman for the entirety and can't understand why the school district has been silent and defensive towards the Zysmans and the efforts to get to the bottom of these terrible acts.
Being an Amador High School graduate, I am apalled and ashamed of my alma mater. The efforts to downplay and brush this tragedy under the rug by the Amador County School District and the staff at Amador High is a sorry excuse for these hate crimes that went unpunished. This young man and his family are not only owed an explanation but a full apology from these people in charge that did nothing.
You are educators! Did you forget the reason you became teachers and administrators? This teenager was put through hell and there was nobody at this school that had the courage to do anything about it. These slurs and swastikas were left for all to see for a very long time. I wonder if this child would have been a teacher's son if this would have been the same outcome?
Some of these teachers and administrators were my teachers. I thought they were good teachers. I guess I was wrong. What they allowed to go on was a crime in itself. No person should have to go through what this young man did. "Kids will be kids" is not an excuse for this torment. The administration is as guilty as the kids that perpetrated these unpunished acts.
All involved that didn't step up to the plate on this matter should be terminated without pay. They should never be allowed to teach again. These educators need to break ranks, quit being gutless and come clean on why this wasn't acted on immediately.
In this day and age, it is hard to imagine this happening anywhere, but it is especially hard to believe it happened in our small county.
I can only hope that the Zysman family can get on with their lives and hope that this never happens again to anyone.
