Support for Amador High School Thursday, June 25, 2009 - Tanner Scholtes - Senior Class President, Aaron Outland - co-Salutatorian, Allison Platt - co-Salutatorian, Joey Wall - Valedictorian — Class of 2009 In the four years we have attended Amador High, there never seemed to be too much fuss about the state of our public education. With the recent outpouring of complaints over the past month, there seems to be a need for students to lend perspective to the dialogue. In witnessing the changes Mr. Alan Van Velzen's current administration has brought about, we believe we speak for a majority of the student body in saying that Amador is a much-improved school now. After taking over two years ago, Mr. Van Velzen immediately gave a new sense of confidence in the way Amador was run. Whether it was communicating with the student government or dealing with compassionately individual students, his actions translated into a clean break with the unresponsive previous administration. With the current state of education in California, we need more people like Mr. Van Velzen. A surefire way to work for a better education of students in Amador County is hard work, as exemplified by many of the faculty members at Amador High, including Mr. Van Velzen. As graduated seniors, we would like to thank Mr. Van Velzen for his hard work in improving Amador High, and we feel confident he will continue to do an excellent job at Amador.
