Library needs soar in tough economic times Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - Marj Stuart, Pine Grove Five years ago, 284 people passed through the door of Amador's main library in Jackson in an 11-hour day. I know because I stood there counting them, noting the purpose of their visit, and sharing the results in a guest column in the Ledger. Today's average count is between 400 and 500 people per 10-hour day. The number of library staff is the same today as it was five years ago. How many other county agencies can match that service increase? It's a testament to how essential a library is to a community during tough economic times, not to mention the increased efficiency of the incredible library staff. Kudos to Laura Einstadter and her crew.
