At last night’s rescheduled Jackson Planning
Commission meeting, the Final Environmental Impact Report was certified for
Land Use Element updates, Circulation Element amendments, and Development and
Zoning code updates. The city
is slowly making progress in constructing the city’s General Plan. Beth
Thompson of Pacific Municipal Consultants made a presentation to the commission
that outlined the final report, and about a dozen members of the public were
present to submit comments before the certifying document goes to the Jackson
City Council for approval next Monday.
The most
significant input regarding the Final EIR was presented by the Amador Citizens
for Smart Growth, or ACSG. ACSG
Chairwoman Kathy Allen commented that, although the City had several meetings
with property owners over the course of twelve years in preparing the
Land Use element, the focus of those meetings were on zoning changes, and that
there was no discussion of General Plan goals or creation of policies. City
Manager Mike Daly said he greatly appreciates the feedback and work of the ACSG.
Present in the audience was Jackson
city councilman Al Nunez. TSPN asked Nunez during a break in the meeting what
he thought about the Final EIR, he said that he felt there were pros and cons to the report, but that it
seemed good overall, and said he felt that members of the public were “nit
picking”.
