Jackson Shopping Staple Closing Due To Economy
JACKSON, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Kountry Kasuals has been in business in the town of Jackson for nearly 60 years, but will now have to close its doors.
Instead of riding out the recession, the business owner is retiring early after nearly six decades in retail.
77-year-old Angie Trotter's clothing boutique "Kountry Kasuals" us a landmark in Jackson's historic downtown.
"I've enjoyed it all the way, but I can't do it anymore," says Angie.
The double whammy of a recent stroke and the recession forced Trotter to shut her doors after 57 years.
"People worry about their money, it's not like before because they don't have it," she tells CBS13.
Her daughter Michelle took over the reigns just as the economy took a dive.
"We started to see little bit dropping, we thought it will be ok, then we all felt it," says Michelle Mansor, Trotter's daughter.
Kountry Kasuals is the just the latest casualty, four other stores and one restaurant have already gone under in the past six months.
Trotter opened the store when he was only 20-years-old, and the closure is bitter sweet.
"A woman whose had hurdles persevered and can walk away with a smile on her face of 57 years of success," says Mansor.
Trotter plans on keeping her store open through September in order to give her customers a chance to visit one final time.
