The possible closure of the Preston Youth Correctional Facility continues to loom threateningly over the city of Ione.
In a brief update to the Ione City Council Tuesday, City Manager Kim Kerr admitted that not much is known about what the California Department of Corrections Division of Juvenile Justice is planning right now. What is known is that the population in juvenile facilities has been shrinking significantly and that there are facilities in Stockton where it's cheaper to house the offenders.
"We may know a lot more by next week," surmised Mayor Lee Ard.
