City holds special town hall meeting to discuss Ione community preservation project IONE, CA – The City of Ione is excited to begin development of the Ione Community Preservation Project, which would address downtown character and façade improvement, redevelopment and economic development. Business owners and residents are strongly encouraged to attend a special Town Hall meeting which will be held at Evalynn Bishop Hall on Thursday, April 2, at 6:00 p.m. City Manager Kim Kerr said, “We would be thrilled to have the participation of the community in developing this project. It will involve many different aspects of community preservation, so we’re going to need the public’s input and help to keep the momentum going.” Potential sub-programs that may fall under the Ione Community Preservation Project include a Façade Improvement Plan which would provide business owners an opportunity to apply for a grant for up to half of the total cost of a building improvement, not to exceed $2,500. Other areas that may be included are redevelopment, economic development and the possibility of utilizing the National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Program to benefit the City. The City has pulled together a working group to develop concepts and ideas for issues to be addressed. Applications are now being accepted for several committees that will address these important community issues. Applications can be found at www.ione-ca.com and should be submitted to City Manager Kim Kerr at City Hall.
