H1N1 vaccine supply has increased this week within Amador County, providing the opportunity to vaccinate all Amador County residents.
Amador County Public Health and many local providers have received additional shipments. The Public Health H1N1 vaccine clinics scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be open to any Amador County resident over the age of 6 months. Community members may also call their provider for vaccination options at their medical office.
"To date, Amador County providers have received 6,850 vaccine doses within our community. Amador County Public Health has administered 2,144H1N1 vaccinations to high risk individuals. If you are in a high risk group, you are highly encouraged to attend one of these vaccine clinics or contact your local provider," said Lori Jagoda, Public Health nurse supervisor.
These groups, with the highest risk for H1N1 influenza related complications, continue to include:
1. Individuals age 6 months-24 years
2. Pregnant women
3. Individuals who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months (parents, siblings, and daycare providers)
4. Health-care and emergency medical services personnel
5. Individuals age 25-64 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for flu-related complications
"Vaccination is still the best way to prevent H1N1 infection," stated Dr. Bob Hartmann, Amador County health officer.
The clinics will be held at the Public Health Department, 10877 Conductor Blvd. in Sutter Creek.
