AREA 12 AGENCY ON AGING ADVISORY COUNCIL

ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICERS

The Advisory Council for the Area 12 Agency on Aging elected new officers for the 2009 term.  Outgoing Chair Marge Depew handed the gavel to Sarah Johnson, the newly elected Chair and welcomed Judy Finley as the new Vice Chair.  The position of Secretary is unfilled.

Johnson is the founder and director of proACTIVE parkinsons project, a non-profit organization which serves patients, caregivers, family members and friends of people suffering from Parkinsons Disease and other chronic neurological disorders in three counties.  She is an Advisory Council member from Amador County.  Johnson is the California Third Congressional District Coordinator for the Parkinsons Action Network and on the speakers bureau for Parkinson Patients Support Groups, Inc.[ppsg] and Americans for Cures.  Finley is an Advisory Council member from Tuolumne County who founded Senior Resource Services ,  a non-profit organization which provides a directory of senior resources as well as transportation to elderly and disabled residents of Tuolumne County  for medical appointments.  She is a member of Senior Network, G.A.P., Senior Legal Advocacy and is Recording Secretary for the Tuolumne Commission on Aging.

The Area 12 Agency on Aging is a Joint Powers Agency [JPA] serving the counties of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne.  The agency provides many direct and contracted services to the community including Case Management, Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy [HICAP], Home Delivered Meals and Elder Abuse Prevention.  For a complete listing of services, please go to their web site: www.area12.org .  The Agency is located at 19074 Standard Road, Suite C in Sonora and the Advisory Council meets monthly at various locations in the  counties represented.  If you are interested in helping to shape the future of senior services in your county,  please come to the next scheduled meeting:    Tuesday, January  20th, 2009.   All meetings are open to the public and allow public comment on any subject not on the printed agenda.
