Schwarzenegger Says Budget Problems Could Affect Fire Protection
Sacramento, CA -- The Schwarzenegger administration says the state won't be able to afford the 1,700 state firefighting positions if voters reject the budget-related measures in next month's special election.
The Associated Press says spending for state firefighting would be cut overall by 10 percent, citing documents obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear says the governor feels it is responsible to let Californians know about the depth and severity of the possible cuts.
