Living in a high fire zone, we're so encouraged by all our neighbors who work so diligently to minimize any fire hazard on their properties. However, as diligent as we are, there are those who, through neglect, are endangering us, our lives, animals and property!
A point in fact: Across from Surry Creek Veterinary Clinic or Upper Ridge Road is a large piece of abandoned property, including a home and several out buildings. Waist-high grass and three very dead, brown trees next to the highway invite fire disaster.
Last summer I called local and state fire officials, and every county department referred to for solving this problem, including my district supervisor. All were cordial, researched the problem and informed me there was nothing they could do to remedy it. Last summer we were spared a fire starting on this property - odds are this year, being a very dry one, we won't be so lucky! Please help us with information on who we should contact to get action.
