Griffin Jr. Final arguments in the case were heard Friday. Attorneys representing Concerned Citizens for Responsible Government and West Point fire faced off Thursday and Friday over the legitimacy of a newly created fire assessment on properties in West Point and Wilseyville. The civil lawsuit has tied up $146,000 that was raised for use by the fire department to provide round-the-clock coverage in the area. “I haven’t been paid since March,” West Point Fire Chief Jim Carroll testified Friday. “We’ve had to lay people off and if something doesn’t happen the district will be out of money by November.” For the complete story, see Tuesday’s print edition of the Calaveras Enterprise or our e-Edition.
