Seemingly disgruntled with rising gas prices, an unidentified man Friday night called in bogus bomb scares at three separate locations.

The call came in just after 9 p.m. to the Jackson Police Department. Because the department was closed, the call automatically rolled over to a dispatcher for the Amador County Sheriff's Office, who heard a man with a calm-sounding gravel voice say he was either "fired for" or"tired of" high gas prices and had put bombs in bags at the Sutter Creek Post Office, Longs Drug Store in Jackson and Staples in Martell.

When asked what kind of bombs he had used, the caller responded "destructive" and hung up.

"He just called in apparently upset about gas prices," said Jackson police Captain Christy Stidger.

The voice on the brief recording came from a possibly middle-aged, intoxicated male, she added.

Units from the Amador County Sheriff's Office and Jackson and Sutter Creek police departments responded to all three locations, where they evacuated people and searched the premises for suspicious packages.

"Nothing was found at any of them," said Sutter Creek police Sgt. Brian Klier.

Each department filed separate reports, but would investigate jointly if anything had been found, Stidger explained.

Stidger said two Jackson units and a fire engine were dispatched to Longs, where they met with the store manager and evacuated the store. "We didn't find anything," she said.

The investigation is still ongoing.
