In Casey’s case, her husband Frank was shot to death nearly three years ago; Ham’s husband, John, was shot dead two years ago. Casey has yet to face trial, and Tammy Ham, as of today, has not been charged. She remains a free woman. Casey, 69, who lives on a ranch between Burson and Rancho Calaveras, was to have had her jury trial Thursday, but it again has been postponed. Now charged with involuntary manslaughter of 75-year-old Frank Casey, her invalid husband who was shot to death Aug. 30, 2005. Janet Casey posted $750,000 bail and has been in and out of court ever since her arrest, when she initially was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder. Casey was found to be intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.27 at 10:15 p.m., just after the shooting, and she tested positive for morphine at 20 milligrams per milliliter early the next morning. Casey allegedly admitted to the shooting in the patrol car on the way to the jail, captured in an audio recording, but then she retracted her words, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department. “We wrestled; I shot him,” she said. But later she blamed her son, Daniel. “My son shot my husband; I didn’t.” Casey’s trial, expected to last three days, has been moved again and is now set for 9 a.m. July 16. Maybe that's why our budget is about to collapse like a house of cards, because we never get anything done.
