Escaped Prisoner George Landecho Lopez

Jamestown, Ca -- When Sierra Conservation Center inmate George Landecho Lopez was captured in Chinese Camp on July 22nd, officers found jewelry in his possession.

Lt. Jimmy Hurtado with SCC confirms that the jewelry was positively identified as belonging to the owner of a home that burned to the ground in the 6900 block of O'Byrnes Ferry Rd. on July 18th.

The home was built by a Hollywood producer in the 1970's and was used by celebrities such as Michael J. Fox and Clint Eastwood during the filming of motion pictures.

6900 O'Brynes Ferry Rd. residence destroyed by fire (7/18/08).

“At this time we are still investigating the matter,” says Hurtado. “He (Lopez) claims that he found it outside and wasn't in the house. Right now it is pending further investigation.”

Initially, investigators found that the fire was electrical in nature, and was started by either the downstairs water heater or air-conditioner.

“With this new information, we are hoping to interview the prisoner and see what he is able to tell us,” says CAL Fire Investigator Rommie Jones. “The investigation will be ongoing.”

The fire did an estimated $1 million in damage when you factor in the structure and contents.
