Man held in park shooting

Published: April 14, 2008

A young man remained in custody this morning on a charge of attempted murder following a shooting Friday evening at Twain Harte's Eproson Park, where a punk rock concert had been held.

Eric Allan Hadden, 18, of Twain Harte was being held on $500,000 bail, according to county jail officials.

He was arrested Saturday as deputies were serving a search warrant at his residence, according to Sheriff's Office officials.

The incident was reported at 9:17 p.m. Friday. Sheriff's dispatchers received information that shots were heard coming from the area of Eproson Park, a sheriff's press release said. A second caller said a man had been shot twice.

The victim, 22, was flown to a Modesto hospital. Information on his condition was unavailable this morning.

Deputies arrived on scene and found the victim, but the shooter had left the area, sheriff's officials said.

Detectives worked through the weekend on the case, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Dan Bressler.

Sonora-area resident Clayton Smock, who organized the concert and whose band, Dishonorable Discharge, headlined, said what led up to the shooting is unclear.

"It was supposed to be more peaceful," he said of the concert.

"It was right after the concert itself, probably within 10 minutes of our band playing," he said.

"Everyone was in the grassy area by the stage ... the shots went off down by the baseball stands."
