                  Man Sent To Prison For ID Theft
                  Jesus Ledesma Earlier Pleaded No Contest

                  FRESNO, Calif. -- The leader of a Fresno identity theft ring 
                  that preyed on more than 50 people was sentenced to prison for 
                  15 years and eight months.
                  Jesus Ledesma pleaded no contest to more than 150 felony 
                  counts of identity theft and related charges in May. He was 
                  sentenced Wednesday.
                  Three others were arrested in February -- Gilbert Chavez, 
                  Linda Arreola and Juan Hernandez. All pleaded no contest. 
                  Chavez, charged with more than 70 felony counts of identity 
                  theft, agreed to seven years in prison. 
                  Arreola and Hernandez, charged with two felony counts of 
                  identity theft each, were sentenced to probation.
                  Police said they made phone calls posing as bank officials or 
                  credit card employees then used personal information to open 
                  phony credit card accounts.
