Law enforcement on lookout for shooting suspect

Published: August 26, 2008

An Avery man has been released from the hospital after allegedly being shot by his brother, who remains on the loose.

Saturday evening, Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call regarding a shooting at a home on Sorrel Way.

Jimmy Wilson, 37, of Avery, had allegedly been shot in the shoulder by his brother, Lee Wilson, 39, of Mountain Ranch, with a .25-caliber handgun, according to a Sheriff's Department report.

Deputies said the brothers were attending a birthday party for a relative and began arguing. The argument ended with the shooting, and Lee Wilson ran from the scene prior to deputies' arrival, according to the report.

Lee Wilson's 17-year-old daughter followed him and was reported missing after the incident, officials said. She was found Monday at Calaveras Big Trees State Park unharmed.

Jimmy Wilson was transported by helicopter to a Modesto hospital where he was treated for his wounds and released.

The Sheriff's Office S.W.A.T. team conducted a search of the surrounding area for Lee Wilson, but he could not be located, the release stated.

Lee Wilson is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Wilson was last seen wearing camouflage clothing. Authorities described him as an avid outdoorsman and said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to call the Sheriff's Department at 754-6500, or the anonymous tip line at 754-6030.
