A break-in discovered Monday on Chardin Place in the Serrano community was the latest in a string of burglaries. Construction managers came to work about 8 a.m. to find that their office trailer had been raided. Losses included an office computer, a smaller laptop computer and several battery chargers, according to a sheriff's summary. Identifying suspects is especially difficult because many people visit Serrano to tour model homes, officials said. At least a half dozen raids on construction storage containers occurred Feb. 25 or early Feb. 26 (an earlier version of this story had incorrect dates). All the thefts were in the area around Blackstone Parkway and Valley View Parkway, where a major residential development is being built south of Highway 50, off Latrobe Road. Storage containers belonging to contractors and landscaping companies were hit on the same night. In one case, thieves maneuvered a small tractor into position and used it to break into a storage container. At several other locations, padlocks were cut off to gain entry. Tools worth thousands of dollars and rolls of wire were main targets. One outfit told deputies that it lost 50 spools of copper wire, each weighing 20 pounds, along with four spools of aluminum wire, each weighing 150 pounds. Unique content, exceptional value.
