"National Night Out" celebrations are scheduled across the country today, with Stockton and, for the first time, Angels Camp getting in on the act.
The Community Partnership for Families will be holding its block party from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Diamond Cove II Family Resource Center, located at 5506 Tam O'Shanter Dr. in Stockton. Angels Camp's first neighborhood watch program will start its block party, an ice cream social, tonight at 7 on Alawa Place off Miwuk in the Greenhorn Creek subdivision. Both events are free.
As part of the Angels Camp Police Department's focus on community-oriented policing, the new Greenhorn Creek neighborhood watch group will assist law enforcement in its crime prevention efforts, according to a news release from the department. Tonight's block party is intended to be a celebration of those efforts.
Community Partnership for Families is a collaboration of neighborhood groups, faith-based organizations, schools, businesses, and public and private health agencies. The partnership established family resource centers in high-need areas throughout Stockton. These centers are placed where neighborhood residents can come together to get to know each other, celebrate their cultures and work on common problems.
The event's partners are all located at Diamond Cove II. They are Head Start, ConAm, Energy Partner Program, Hmong Cultural Institute, Child Health Development Prevention program, Community for Change, Lao Khmu Association, Muslim Mental Health, United Cambodian Families and PACT Inclusive Accountability program.
